Diary of a Wimpy Christian Kid

There is a best-selling book series and now a hit movie entitled “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”  It chronicles the adventures of a young junior high student who is, well, wimpy.

We are creating our own original version called The Diary of a Wimpy Christian Kid.”  If we are honest, there is a wimpy kid in all of us.  A little kid inside that is frightened, insecure, confused, and searching for love, acceptance, and purpose.

The Good News for Christians, however, is that we have a God who loves, us, accepts us, and gives us the power to do incredible things!  God says to us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Each week in the month of August, we will be hearing excerpts from the diary of a wimpy, Christian kid named Jonah.  This will be a multi-media experience for all ages including reading, video, music, skits, and audience participation.  The journal chronicles Jonah’s adventures and the lessons he learns about God’s grace and power.

To prepare for this experience you can read along with our Adventure through the Bible readings.  Or you can follow this modified plan.

  1.  August 1 & 4: Jonah 1:1-16; 1 Corinthians 1-2
  2. August 8 & 11: Jonah 1:17-2:9; 1 Corinthians 3-10
  3. August 15 & 18: Jonah 2:10-4:1; 1 Corinthians 11-16
  4. August 22 & 25: Jonah 4:2-10; 2 Corinthians 1-6
  5. August 29 & Sep 1: Unfinished story of Jonah; 2 Corinthians 7-13
