Luther Bible Study

Martin Luther Bible Study

Since 2017 is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, it seems like a great time to learn a bit more about Martin Luther. Join us at my house (16759 West Sioux Drive – outside if it’s nice, inside if it’s not) at 6:30 every Tuesday night for a Martin Luther bible study. Each Tuesday we’ll explore a different aspect of Luther’s theology and how it impacts us today. Here’s what it looks like for the rest of the summer:

July 4 – No Bible Study

July 11 – Bondage of the will (or “why we do the stuff we know we shouldn’t do”)

July 18 – It’s all about the grace

July 25 – How to tell the difference between a sinner and a saint

August 1 – No Bible Study

August 8 – Who is our neighbor?

August 15 –  We’ve all got a gift (the priesthood of all believers)

August 23 – Vocation – how we make a difference in the world

August 30 – Luther today

Wednesday Worship

Wednesday Worship – Starting June 7 – we’re starting a Wednesday worship service at 6:30 for anyone who may not be able to make it on Sunday. While I’m really hoping that anyone in town on Sunday will be at worship on Sunday, I know that summer travel and other commitments often make that impossible. So if that’s you, you’re in luck – our Wednesday evening service is perfect for you! Wednesday worship starts at 6:30, and like all our services, it features singing, communion, fun and a whole lot of God.

Holy Week and Easter Services

Holy Week, the week that begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter, is always a busy time here at Cross of Glory, that includes many opportunities to worship. And this year is no exception. Here are some highlights:

Palm Sunday Worship Service – Sunday, April 9 at 9:30. We journey through the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with his celebratory entrance into Jerusalem and ending with his death on the cross five days later. We’ll use a combination of music, slides and readings, as the entire congregation participates in the story of those final days.

Seder Meal Worship — Thursday, April 13 at 6:30. Experience a traditional Passover Seder Meal in a Christian worship setting. It will give us a fresh perspective on the Lord’s Supper and its significance for our lives.

Good Friday Cross Walk — Friday, April 14, at Noon. Walk with us throughout downtown Lockport, as we join other local congregations and follow the cross, stopping at various church buildings and ministry sites to hear about Jesus’ final words on the cross.

Good Friday Worship — Friday, April 14, at 7:00 pm. We journey with Jesus’ through his trial, condemnation and crucifixion via songs, readings, and hands on experiences, as we explore what Jesus’ death means for us today.

Easter Sunday Services — Sunday, April 16, at 9:30 and 11:00. We celebrate the victory over sin and death on Easter morning, as God raises Jesus to new life. Both the 9:30 and 11:00 services include joyful worship celebrations, as our praise band is supplemented with brass and a choir.

All of these services are wonderful opportunities for people to encounter God through different worship styles and new experiences. Please invite your friends and family to come and meet God at Cross of Glory during Holy Week. Contact the church to volunteer for Holy Week services.

Join us Wednesdays & discuss “The Shack”

Discussion of The Shack – 6:30 pm

Each Wednesday during Lent, we’ll be focusing on the movie The Shack, a modern-day parable that brings to life deep spiritual truths and highlights how healing can arise out of impossible tragedy. For anyone who may have wondered where God is in their pain, and for those who have questioned if God is there at all, The Shack presents an unforgettable encounter with a divine love that promises to never leave us.

Starting Wednesday, March 8, after our meal, we’ll watch a portion of The Shack and then discuss how its themes apply to our lives today. The principles of the movie speak to us all whether we have endured terrible tragedy and pain, or the more common struggles of everyday life. We hope to have some really good discussions using our guided discussion questions, so this is a great opportunity to bring friends to join us on Wednesday nights.
