Worship Update

From Pastor Dana…

Hi everyone,

Remember I sent you an email a couple weeks ago about beginning indoor worship at Cross of Glory on Sunday, November 1. And remember that email also said we want to remain flexible, so we can respond to any new Illinois or CDC guidance. Well, by now most of you know that Will County is now subject to COVID mitigation restrictions, including a cap of 10 people for indoor gatherings. And that means we will delay the start of indoor worship at COG for the time being.

Throughout this pandemic, one of our primary concerns as a congregation has been caring for our neighbors. It’s why we wear masks and social distance, even when we’re worshipping outdoors. It’s why we will implement even more safety precautions when we move inside. But at this point, delaying the start of indoor worship is the best way to both keep our neighbors and us safe and serve as good role models for our community.

So for right now, each Sunday we’ll have the band and other volunteers who put the service together at the building. And the rest of us are all invited to worship online at 9:30 via Facebook live. (Please feel free to comment and tell everyone you’re watching. I don’t know about you, but the comments always make me feel more connected.) As soon as Will County gets back to Phase 4, we can go ahead with plans to add an indoor worship option.

Thanks so much everyone! I trust we all know that we are church together, even when we are unable to physically worship together. We have a God who always shows up wherever we are, and who continues to do amazing things in and through us. And the people of God said . . .

Amen, People of God!

Cross of Glory Worshiping Outside until Nov. 1

Join us in the parking lot at Cross of Glory.

We will be following state recommendations…

Drive-in services involve congregants driving to a common location and worshiping together from their household vehicle, while listening to either a remote service or one that is broadcast through speakers. If done correctly, these types of services pose a low risk of infection. Maintain distance between cars so that there is more than six feet of distance between any group of congregants and another group of congregants – particularly if car windows are open. Restrooms should be regularly sanitized and have sufficient soap and hand sanitizer.

From Pastor Dana…

Hello everyone,

As we get ready to worship outside at the Cross of Glory building this Sunday, I’m sending you all the liturgy for Sunday’s worship. It includes all the spoken words and all the song lyrics.

If you are planning to come and worship at the building, this attached document is essential. We do not have a screen outside, so you need to either copy the attached document and bring copies with you, or you need to download it and get it off your ipad or phone. We will not have copies available, so make sure you bring enough for everyone in your car.

So remember, here’s what you want to bring:

        • A copy of the liturgy (AVAILABLE HERE)
        • a mask for everyone if you are coming out of the car (this is key — it is how we love our neighbor!!!)
        • your own chair if you’re coming out of the car
        • communion elements (bread and wine or juice)
        • wear a pride shirt or some other colorful shirt if you want to be in the video we’re creating after worship for Pride Month

Lots of grace and a sense of humor would be good too.  We’ll have people who will help you park (every other parking space). And if you are coming up front, please wear masks and socially distance — we’re shooting for 10 feet between groups because we are singing.

I’m so looking forward to seeing your smiling faces (even if your smiles are behind masks). And if you’re just not comfortable coming to worship in person yet (or you are feeling at all sick and are staying home), that’s fine — you can join us live on our Cross of Glory Facebook page

Watch our Services on Facebook Live

From Pastor Dana O’Brien – Saturday, March 21, 2020…

Hi everyone,

If you’ve got a virtual worship place, that’s wonderful. But if your congregation isn’t worshiping, I invite you to join us at Cross of Glory on Sunday morning via Facebook live. Click here to go to our Cross of Glory Lutheran Church Facebook site and join us promptly at 9:30. The service will be on the screen, so be prepared to participate by speaking the prayers and confession aloud, sharing your own prayers and other comments, and singing the songs.

So for those of you who aren’t on Facebook, sign up before the next service.

And please extend us a bit of grace. We’re trying to be good models of our governor’s shelter in place order, so we’re streaming worship with just two people.

Shortly after each service, we will add the video of the service to the Sermons and Service Videos area (click here) in the “Common Links” area of the web page.

2019 Holy Week Worship Opportunities

Holy Week is the week that begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter. It is always a busy time here at Cross of Glory. There are many powerful opportunities to worship. Here are some highlights:

  • Palm/Passion Sunday Worship Service – Sunday, April 14, at 9:30. Journey through the last week of Jesus’ life. Begin with his celebratory entrance into Jerusalem and end with his death on the cross five days later. A combination of music, slides and readings helps the entire congregation participates in the story of those final days.
  • Good Friday Cross Walk — Friday, April 19, at Noon. Walk with us, as we join other local congregations in downtown Lockport. Start at Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church at 12:00 Noon. Stop at various church buildings and end at the Lockport park band shell. At each stop we’ll hear from people who were involved in Jesus’ passion and crucifixion, including Pilate, Mary, Peter, the centurion, and others. This is a wonderful lead-in to Good Friday worship at Cross of Glory, where we’ll continue the theme, “We Were There When They Crucified the Lord.”
  • Good Friday Worship — Friday, April 19, at 7:00 pm. We will walk with Jesus’ through his trial, condemnation and crucifixion. There will be songs, readings, and hands-on experiences. We will continue to look at the Cross Walk theme and explore what Jesus’ death means for us today.
  • Easter Sunday Services — Sunday, April 21, at 9:30 and 11:00. We celebrate the victory over sin and death on Easter morning, as God raises Jesus to new life. Both the 9:30 and 11:00 services include joyful worship celebrations, as our praise band is supplemented with brass and a choir.

All of these services are wonderful opportunities for people to encounter God through different worship styles and new experiences. Please invite your friends and family to come and meet God at Cross of Glory during Holy Week. Contact the COG office if you would like to help with any of our Holy Week services.
